ABOUT THE ARTIST
Clare Palmer, a graduate of the City Lit Ceramics Diploma, has earned recognition for her emotionally resonant and abstract ceramic sculptures. Working from her London studio, she creates handbuilt wall sculptures and sculptural vessels in porcelain and stoneware, exploring themes of emotional impact, fragility, and strength through the manipulation of clay.
Clare is an emerging figure in contemporary ceramics, with her work featured in exhibitions such as Ceramic Art London and Collect at Somerset House. She is represented by Ruup & Form, and her pieces have been showcased at prestigious events like the Affordable Art Fair and Fresh Air Sculpture Show.
DESCRIPTION
In her powerful series Ragged, Clare Palmer delves into the crushing, destructive nature of depression and its lingering impact. The pieces reflect the emotional scars carried throughout the experience, often unnoticed until seen in hindsight. Working with porcelain and stoneware, Palmer sculpts abstract forms that are intentionally fractured and uneven, symbolizing the internal disintegration that takes place during times of deep emotional turmoil.
The rough, torn edges and distorted shapes in Ragged embody the wear and tear of the self during depression, a slow destruction that becomes apparent only when looking back.
