Clare Palmer, a graduate of the City Lit Ceramics Diploma, has earned recognition for her emotionally resonant and abstract ceramic sculptures. Working from her London studio, she creates handbuilt wall sculptures and sculptural vessels in porcelain and stoneware, exploring themes of emotional impact, fragility, and strength through the manipulation of clay.

Clare is an emerging figure in contemporary ceramics, with her work featured in exhibitions such as Ceramic Art London and Collect at Somerset House. She is represented by Ruup & Form, and her pieces have been showcased at prestigious events like the Affordable Art Fair and Fresh Air Sculpture Show.

In her evocative series Layers, Clare Palmer explores the complex and multifaceted emotions that arise during trauma. The pieces embody the idea of multiple layers of experience, each coexisting within us, sometimes exposed and other times concealed. Palmer’s fascination with the interplay between exterior and interior takes center stage in these works, as the carefully crafted porcelain and stoneware forms allow glimpses of the inner layers to emerge, much like peeling back an onion to reveal what lies beneath.

Through her dynamic use of materials, Palmer allows the interior to become part of the exterior, merging the hidden with the visible in a striking exploration of how we carry and reveal our inner lives.
