DESCRIPTION

This series by Mimi is inspired by the book 'In Watermelon Sugar' and was made particularly for House of QRA. As a large standing porcelain sculptural vessel slip, it represents a lantern held by a future lover as she walks through a green forest at night. It contains a story that leaks out of the vessel like the light from a lamp flickering in the woods.

The piece is crafted using her unique method of handwritten porcelain slip, coiled and built up into forms that echo the moon’s surface. Her technique plays with a delicate appearance while surprising with robustness at the same time. Adjusts the heat of the kiln, Mimi is able to create a collapsed form. The beauty in this gentle planned collapse highlights the love of imperfection in Korean ceramics.
