BETWEEN EXPRESSIVE STRUCTURES AND DELICATE BASES
Teresa Lobelia D’Arienzo, born in the south of Italy and now residing in the heart of Tuscany, is a renowned ceramic artist known for her delicate interplay between fragility and stability. A graduate of the prestigious Florence Academy of Fine Arts, Teresa’s work is deeply inspired by the traditional techniques of her craft, which she elevates into modern, sculptural forms that challenge perceptions of balance and lightness.
Her work often explores precarious, narrow bases supporting light yet expressive structures. The juxtaposition of lightness, rawness and precariousness inspire a series of unique pieces in which the main elements are exasperated in a compound structure, imperfect and in constant motion. Each piece emerges from an intuitive process, embracing the unpredictable qualities of the material while incorporating elements that both support and challenge conventional ideas of form.
‘I CREATE UNIQUE PIECES WITH A FOCUS ON EXPRESSIVE SURFACES, WHETHER THEY ARE FORMED OF PURE COLOR OR BY MEANS OF TEXTURE.’
Teresa’s pieces, often described as poetic and expressive, are an exploration of the tactile and emotional relationships between the material and the maker, resulting in objects that are at once grounded and ethereal.
