DELVING INTO THE HISTORY AND AESTHETICS OF CERAMICS AS A MEDIUM

OLGA IACOVLENCO

Olga is a Vancouver BC based ceramic artist with a love for diving deep into a scholarly pursuit of ceramics and the history behind it.

Olga’s artistic journey began with a desire to create meaningful objects for everyday life. Through ceramics, she found a medium that allowed her to cultivate and share her love of beauty. Her work is a testament to the enduring power of craftsmanship, offering a counterpoint to the fast-paced, mass-produced world we inhabit.

Olga Iacovlenco’s ceramics embody the essence of awai, a Japanese concept that encapsulates subtle beauty, understated elegance, and a delicate sense of restraint. Her work is a quiet reflection of nature’s harmony, inviting viewers into a world of tranquility and contemplation.

'MY CREATIVE PROCESS IS ROOTED IN SIMPLICITY. WORKING WITH CLAY IN A SIMPLE HAND-BUILDING TECHNIQUE, I BRING MY SCULPTURES INTO BEING - COIL BY COIL SLOWLY AND THOUGHTFULLY.'

In a society that often prioritizes speed and efficiency, Olga’s ceramics invite us to slow down and appreciate the simple pleasures. Her pieces are not merely functional objects but also vessels for mindfulness and connection with the natural world. By embracing the awai aesthetic, Olga’s work offers a refuge from the noise, inviting us to find beauty in the quiet and the unseen.
